Bye Bye Birdie
Bye Bye Birdie, the classic musical set in the 1950s, is coming to Henry Miller's Theatre on West 43rd Street this fall. The talented cast includes John Stamos as Albert Peterson, Gina Gershon as Rose Alvarez, Bill Irwin as Harry MacAfee, and Jayne Houdyshell as Mae Peterson. The story is inspired by the Elvis Presley's being drafted into the Army. The show pokes fun at 1950s cultural trends, publicity stunts, pop stars, teenage sexuality, and conformity. The MacAffee family and the entire town of Sweet Apple, Ohio go topsy-turvy when Conrad Birdie, a teen idol, comes to town to serenade a lucky fan just before entering the Army. Popular songs include "The Telephone Hour," "A Lot of Livin to Do," "Put on a Happy Face," and "Kids." The Henry Miller's Theatre is the first new Broadway Theater built in more than a decade. The new venue has set the standard for an environmentally sustainable design and construction of performing arts facilities. The fabulous Theater is located behind the preserved and restored Georgian façade of the original 1918 venue. Details:
